BAIXLAIGUA / 30.04.08 – 29.05.08

Baixlaigua (Salva G. Torres)
Oscar Nguera Coscoll

MAROOJITA IN THE FOREST

We met Salva and Oscar at Carrer Cometa (BCN) in January 2007. To be precise they were the seed to this Exhibition.

We were walking around in Barcelona looking for the right AM-store, when we passed that fucked up place. There was this one single painting in the window pane that caught our attention. Christmas Sucks! That piece of artwork immediately had some strange attraction to us, so we decided to enter that little cubicle. The place had that genuine smell of weed, the brick walls and the warm untidy creativity were inviting, just as the three guys sitting behind their macs. We started talking about their work. They were enthusiastic and unobtrusive at the same time, showing us some unbelievable digital stuff they had done for some really well known Spanish companies like Mango and talked about it as if it was the most natural thing to work at this high level in some backyard place in BCN. I asked them about the painting in the window. There were a few more spread around on the walls. Salva told us that they were just painting in their spare time, just for fun. “Christmas sucks, you know, I hate Christmas…so I made this painting last year for the party of a friend on Christmas eve…now it’s just hanging here”. I think that sentence was the initial spark for this exhibition. A few days later we asked them if they would like to have an Exhibition in Vienna some time. Salva started to romanticize about Vienna, Klimt, Schiele, Kokoschka and we agreed to keep in touch and put some focus on the project. Now, one year later, the creative output of those two outstanding artists from BCN are here and we are proud to be able to share them with you.
